Today is day 33 of suspended loadshedding.
Eskom announced yesterday, that loadshedding remains suspended until further notice. This is due to sustained generation capacity and sufficient emergency reserves.
Eskom said unplanned outages are currently at an estimated13 898MW Megawatts (MW) whilst planned maintenance is at 5 424MW.
A total of 3 300MW is expected to be restored by today.
Enough supply for Winter
Responding to questions about suspended loadshedding used as an election ploy, Dan Marokane, Eskom Group Chief Executive, said on Friday, in a strategic move to improve the reliability of fleet generation, planned maintenance was increased during the Summer months, of 2023/2024, to about 8,000 Megawatts (MW).
He said this action is aimed at securing long-term operational benefits and stabilizing energy supply.
Marokane said the plan now, is to keep unplanned outages at between 14,000 and 15,000 MW.
“Remaining within this range of unplanned outages, will enable us to maintain loadshedding at lower stages, throughout the winter.”
