A man identified as Bernd Kebbel,  was mauled by a lion over the weekend.

The man was camping at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, with his wife and friend, and decided to use the toilet, when he was attacked and killed.

The Ministry of Environment in Namibia, confirmed the incident on Sunday, the 01 June 2025, saying the animal was put down.

Ndeshipanda Hamunyela, a Ministry spokesperson said “the Ministry confirms that a lone lioness, was put down on Sunday, 1 June 2025. This decision followed continuous monitoring by Ministry staff, which revealed that the animal had become habituated and was posing an ongoing threat to both community members and tourists.”
