Over 150 people have died and 500 are still missing, following floods in Central Nigeria, over the weekend.
Mokwa, was hardest hit, a market town located in the north-central Niger.
Although assessments of the damage are ongoing, the Niger State Emergency Management agency, said more than 500 houses submerged, leaving over 3,000 people.
IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, sent a message of comfort to H.E. Ambassador Yusuf TUGGAR, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Monday.
“I am deeply grieved and saddened to learn of the extensive damage, including numerous casualties, caused by the widespread floods in the Niger State, located in west-central Nigeria. I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and my sympathies are with their bereaved families. I sincerely pray for the quick recovery of those who are injured as well as the prompt reconstruction of the affected areas.”
