The Fordsburg substation was isolated as a precautionary measure, after smoke was detected coming from underground cable tunnels, on Sunday afternoon.

This affected several stations supplied through the Reuven, Lenasia and Hursthill Service Delivery Centres (SDCs), including Johnware Substation, Nancefield, Mayfair Substation, Pennyville Substation, Orlando Switching Station and Eikenhof Substation, Eldorado Park, Nirvana, Soweto Local, Industria, Bree Substation, and Braamfontein.

City Power said Emergency Management Services (EMS) are  onsite assessing the source of the smoke and conditions inside the tunnels. 

The Reuven station affected Kibler Park, Chrisville, Mayfield Park, Mondeor, Naturena, Eikenhof, Robertsham, Alveda Park, Ormonde, Comptonville, Meredale and surrounding areas.

The Lenasia station affected Eldorado Park, New Eldorado Park, Nancefield, Nirvana, Soweto and surrounding areas supplied through the Nancefield, New Eldorado Park, Nirvana and Soweto substations.

The Hursthill station affected Brixton East, Riverlea, Crosby, Mayfair, Langlaagte and surrounding areas.

As a result, Rand Water, could not pump water, as a result of the electricity interruption.
