The Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) has rubbished rumours of a sale of Portion 33 of Farm Braamfontein 53 IR (Marks Park).
In a statement released on Tuesday, Lucky Sindane, the Spokesperson of the JPC said “JPC acknowledges and respects the community’s attachment to these natural features and reiterates its commitment to their preservation. Our primary goal is the responsible management of natural assets, ensuring biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.”
The JPC said there are no plans or intentions to sell, develop, or convert park land for residential purposes, including low-cost housing.
Rumours that the City wants to sell out various assets to developers to build low cost houses, made the rounds, last month.
Then, the JPC said its report to Council recommended initiating a public participation process in accordance with Regulations 34 and 35 of the Asset Transfer Regulations.
“This process is a standard, transparent procedure designed to engage the community and gather input regarding the potential use of the land for sports, recreation, and other compatible purposes, consistent with its Public Open Space zoning. It does not imply any intention to sell or develop the property” said Sindani.
