The fifth victim of the Durban floods, believed to have been washed away, is still missing.
This is despite efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Durban Metro Police teams, to search way past five days, as stipulated in the standard operating procedure.
The Gcabashe family said their mother was washed away by the heavy rains of the 25 February.
She is the fifth victim reported missing in Lamontville.
Four were recovered.
Cyril Xaba, Mayor of eThekwini, joined the search and rescue teams, on Human Rights Day, the 21 March.
Today’s search began at 10am until 1:30pm, using a sniffer dog.
Unfortunately, they could not find the missing body.
Xaba said “the team has worked beyond the call of duty as they came to the area for the fourth time today to assist the family to find closure. We remain optimistic that at some point the body will be found.”
