Two people were confirmed dead on the M1 North on Sunday afternoon.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said three (3) motor vehicles are involved, and as a result, the road is temporarily closed, just before the Glenhove Road off-ramp in Houghton Estate.
Fire and Rescue services are also assisting with entrapment in the wreckage.
Motorists are advised to avoid the M1 North between 11th Avenue and Glenhove Road and to expect heavy delays in the surrounding Houghton and Melrose areas.
Alternative routes are Oxford Road, Louis Botha Avenue and Jan Smuts Avenue.
