Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution on the R30 between Theunissen and Welkom, near Gasplant, due to water on the road.
The Department of Roads in Mpumalanga said it is working closely with the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd to implement a rapid response, as this route now falls under the national road network.
In the meantime, drivers are urged to obey the temporary speed limits in place, reduce speed and remain alert at all times, as well as follow all instructions from traffic officials on site.
Traffic officers are also on site, to manage the situation.
