The Mpumalanga tourism and parks authority (MTPA) confirmed the capture of two lions.
Simphiwe Shungube, Senior Manager of Communications at MTPA said the first lion was captured on the 24th of May, at Uitkyk Road, in Mbombela.
The second was found in the Barberton Valley, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Shungube said “the search operation was conducted in extremely difficult terrain characterised by dense vegetation and steep valleys, which made locating the lion particularly challenging.”
He also thanked a range of stakeholders who helped with the rescue, including Friends of Wildlife Africa, Wildlife Vets, Sapphire Blue Drone Services, Tomjachu Bush Retreat, Hope for Wildlife Helicopter Services, African Wildlife Vets, We Wild Africa and Care for Wild.
