Fire fighting teams continue to mop up in parts of the Cape Winelands District Municipality.

This follows multiple fires in the area.

The fire at Dunstone, in Wellington,
was contained at 19:30 on Saturday evening.

The fire in Rooshoek, also in Wellington, was also extinguished in the early hours of Sunday morning, at around 2:00am.

The Municipality said the situation at Oaklands is somewhat different.
“Late yesterday afternoon, the combination of wind and high fuel load drove the fire down the valley where it jumped a gravel road into an old eucalyptus plantation. Through consistent backburning, into around 4:00 this morning, teams were able to divert the fire from reaching horse stables and the protea plantation.”

The Municipality said its own teams and those from CapeNature, successfully drove the fire back into the plantation, where it could burn itself out by Sunday morning.

Teams in the Witzenberg Valley also did a successful backburn. The right flank above Wakkerstroom is fully contained, while the left flank has a minor line that ground teams are working on.

The Municipality said in an update, there is still a small line moving toward Fairfield farm and small spots high in the mountains.

The fire line above mountains in Tulbagh is still active, but moving slowly down the mountain.
