The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has established a virtual Joint operations
centre (JOC), for the festive.
Luyanda Lawu, Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for Safety and Security, said the virtual operations will enhance visibility and operational reach.
He also said all agencies who are designated for the JOC are on standby.
These are the Metro Police Department, SAPS and the Traffic and Licensing services and others who will be stationed at beach fronts.
More than 300 bylaw fines have already been issued in the beachfront precinct since the start of the December 2024.
This shows a zero-tolerance approach to public drinking.
The Municipality said in addition, speed cameras are being rolled out across the Metro to enforce traffic laws and regulations, whilst equally reducing road fatalities and injuries.
“Joint operations are held to enhance and increase law enforcement visibility around
the Metro every week, with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders” said Lawu.
