Findings of a quarterly report, ending in June 2024, by Statistics South Africa (StatsSA),
found motor trade sales decreased by 9,9% year-on-year.
The largest negative contributor to this decrease was a decline in new vehicle sales by 17%.
Another contributing factor, was a decrease in fuel sales by -4,0%.
According to StatsSA, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 4,9% in June 2024 compared with the previous month (May 2024).
Motor trade sales decreased by 5,3% in the second quarter of 2024 compared with the same time last year (2023).
Used vehicle sales jumped by 6,0%, contributing 1,2 percentage points, to the total account of motor trade sales.
Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 1,5% in the second quarter of 2024 compared with the first quarter of 2024.
