A fire at the Waltloo Substation has disrupted electricity supply to nearby Rooiwal, Pyramid, Phumulani, Waltloo and Koedoespoort.
The City of Tshwane said Waltloo transformer 1B caught fire just after midnight on Wednesday.
The City also said the fire was completely extinguished by its Emergency Services team.
Although technicians have begun assessments, repairs are expected to begin shortly thereafter.
The time of restoration of power is still unknown.
