Fannie Masemola, National Police Commissioner, has disputed claims of a shutdown on Monday, the 26th May, in Gauteng.
Messages were circulating via WhattsApp of a shutdown, detailing how communities will block highways, close schools, shutdown the American embassy and Consulate as well as close down targeted food outlets in Gauteng on Monday, 26 May 2025.
Masemola has also sent a strong message to the people behind the WhattsApps.
“We are not going to allow lawlessness and acts of criminality, those who are found to be on the wrong side of the law, will be dealt with accordingly. The N1 Sandton, N1 Pretoria and M1 and M2 motorways will be opened” said Masemola.
To enforce this, law enforcement agencies such as JMPD, TMPD and EMPD, National and Provincial Traffic authorities and private security are on high alert.
