Residents of Mangaung in the Free State, have expressed anger and frustration at the Municipality’s notice explaining the reasons for hiccups in water supply.

Willie Willie said “was there never rainfall in the old South Africa?”

Daniel Mvimbi said “comrades hate service delivery.”

Jo Mari Roosevelt said” one would think that the high risk of debris during the period of severe rainfall would have been identified and mitigated by now…. “

At least 34 areas in the Mangaung Metro have had no water supply since yesterday, Friday, the 24th January 2025.

Qondile Khedama, the Municipality’s Spokesperson, said in a statement on Friday, interruptions to water supply “were caused by high turbidity and debris in the Upper Caledon River Region and affected by the Welbedacht Water Treatment Plant that treats and supplies water adequately.”

Khedama also said the system is intertwined with the Modder River and Maselspoort Water Treatment Plant.

Areas affected are Mafora, Dewetsdorp, Wepener, Phelindaba, Rocklands, Phahameng, Pellissier, Wilgehof, Ipopeng, Dan Pienaar, Willows, Batho Location, Uitsig, Ednau, Bainsvlei, Freedom Square, Lourierpark and surrounds, Spitskop, Phases 4 – 9, Peter Swart, Bergman Square, Universitas, Heuwelsig, Bayswater, Pentagon Park, Estoir and surrounds, Ryenecke Avenue, the CBD, Bloem Spruit, Hamilton industrial, Braam Fischer building, Namibia Square, Gardenia and Vista Park.
