Kimberley Detectives are investigating a case of an inquest, after the body of an adult male was recovered from the Ekapa Minerals’s mine, on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The police said the body was found at around 3pm on Monday afternoon.
This follows a mud rush that occurred at the mine in Kimberley, on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, where five miners were trapped underground.
Four others must still be found.
Various trade unions including the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), are concerned that Ekapa Resources (Pty) Ltd and Ekapa Minerals (Pty) Ltd, intend to apply for liquidation, while miners are still trapped underground the company’s Du Toitspan Joint Shaft, approximately 890 meters deep.
