About 1,777 copper cables were confiscated along with other stolen goods, in police raids in the North West, in the week ending on Sunday, the 28th September.

The arrests were part of a Joint Law Enforcement operation – OperationShanela II, where 1, 267 suspects were arrested.

Police said the suspects were caught by teams on vehicle checkpoints (VCP’s), stops and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections at second-hand dealers, scrapyards, recyclers, private security, firearm dealers, formal and informal businesses and farms.

In addition , 82 fireworks, five explosive gels, five electric detonators, tobacco products, liquor and drugs were seized.
