About 82 researchers from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) were listed in the latest report of the World’s Top 2% Scientists.
The list of 9 million researchers was released by Stanford University, in collaboration with Elsevier, this week.
The list has the world’s most influential scientists, gathered from a pool of 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields,
The methodology used by Elsevier, has multiple bibliometric indicators, including citations, h-index, and adjusted co-authorship measures.
Professor Letlhokwa Mpedi, UJ’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, said listed scientists come from various faculties of the university, including engineering and health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
Their research speaks to some of society’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, health innovation, sustainable development, and social transformation.
“It is a matter of immense pride that as many as 82 of our researchers have been recognised among the world’s top 2% scientists. This reflects our academic strength, dedication, and excellence across our faculties, research centres and institutes to contributing to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” said Prof Mpedi.
