The failure of Schoenmakers pumpstation in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro on World Water Day, left many areas of Walmer, in the Eastern Cape, without water.
The Municipality said whilst the pump is in the workshop for repairs, a refurbished pump was installed to make up for the loss in water supply.
However a new challenge emerged, in the form of an overheating bearing.
Attempts to cool the bearing proved fruitless, now parts have to be sourced to execute repairs.
Water is expected to return on Saturday, the 22nd March 2025.
Areas affected are those receiving water from the Emerald Hill reservoir zone, including Walmer 7th avenue up to 17th Avenue, Walmer township
-parts of Walmer heights, Walmer downs, Charlotte, Overbaakens, Newton park, parts of Fairview suburb, high areas of Schauderville, Mangold Park, Greenacres and Perridgevale.
To mitigate the risk in the future, the Municipality said it procured two new replacement pumps, which are scheduled for delivery in May.
