The police have found the bakkie used in the murder of Marius Van Der Merwe, a key witness at the Madlanga Commission.
The Commission is set to uncover corruption in the security cluster, following an explosive tell- all by a senior in the police, General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
General Fannie Masemola, said on Tuesday morning, he was investigating with IPID, the murder case of an African male’s body, found dumped in a dam in 2022.
“We are meeting with the family of Marius Van Der Merwe to brief them on how far we are with investigations into his murder.
We will be confirming to the family, that we do believe that we have found the vehicle used in the murder.”
Masemola also said video footage shows a white bakkie pulling up behind van der Merwe’s vehicle, on Saturday, as he was about to open the gate to his residence.
He was shot several times thereafter and died on the scene.
The white Chevrolet bakkie was found abandoned in Alexandra township, in Johannesburg.
The car was found on a gravel dead end road, amongst shacks.
“We have taken the car to our forensic laboratory for further analysis” said Masemola.
He also said the police have three people of interest to quiz about the murder.
