City Power said it is making progress at addressing over 3000 logged queries on Friday, after inclement weather damaged infrastructure in parts of the West Rand, Johannesburg North and South.
Roodepoort, Inner City, Hursthill, Reuven and Randburg were among the worst affected areas.
Isaac Mangena of City Power, said “in Roodepoort, we opened the day with four medium voltage (MV) outages, from Florin Rd Switching Station, Ruimsig Switching Station and two from Mechanical Switching Station. At the close of business, we had managed to restore three of those outages, with the remaining power supply interruption at Florin Rd Switching Station/Little Falls also restored to 95 percent.”
All outages were fully restored in Randburg, including both the Northriding Substation and the Randburg Substation.
There were four major outages in the Johannesburg CBD, with one of those emanating from Central Substation, where a fire was sparked by cable theft and vandalism damaged around 1.2km of underground cable.
“We are pleased to announce that we
have reinstated 100 percent of power supply.”
Around 87 percent of the Selby East distributor was restored, and the team is working on bringing back the remaining areas.
Mangena said a team from City Power is investigating the cause of an outage at the Robertsham Substation.
Teams are also trying to restore the Hursthill, and Forest Town Switching Station and three from Roosevelt Substations, affecting Lawley, Lilly, Mimosa, Pine, Willow, and surrounding streets in Northcliff.
“One of the outages from Allendale Substation, which affects Rabie Ridge, and surroundings has been delayed because the area where the team is working, is drenched in water. The team needed
to first clear the water from the trench before they could carry out repairs. The estimated time of restoration is Sunday around midday” said Mangena.
