Each unit of alternative sanitation to be implemented by the George Municipality, was
tendered at an amount of about R18 727.75 VAT included per unit.
An additional amount of R125 VAT Included, is for the maintenance, per unit, per month.
Dr Kosie Haarhoff, Acting Director of Human Settlements, Planning, Development, and Property Management at the George Municipality, said once the Western Cape Provincial Government approves the requested amount for 900 units, the implementation of the
project will commence immediately.
“A service provider is ready to erect the units in informal settlements.”
Back in April 2023, the George Municipality introduced two pilot projects in Syferfontein, an informal settlement south of Pacaltsdorp.
The units use enzymes to dissolve solids and include a water flush mechanism that drains into underground tanks.
