The UThukela District Municipality clarified the source of the blood flowing from sewer lines in Golf Road.
Spokesperson Jabulani Mkonza said the blood came from 70 sheep slaughtered unlawfully by a local resident for a religious celebration.
“Upon investigation by UThukela Municipal Health Services, it was discovered that this was due to illegal slaughter activities… The individual in question did not apply for permission to slaughter in a residential area.”
He was slapped with 3 fines for non-compliance, infringing against water services bylaw for discharging waste or foreign matter into the municipal sewer line.
The Municipality also revoked his Certificate of Acceptability (COA), issued for processing biltong at his premises.
“To ensure compliance and prevent further illegal activities, our team will be monitoring the premises every two hours said Mkonza.
