Work on pipes supplying water to KwanoBuhle township, is expected to be completed this week.
The pipes were washed away by floods in Gqeberha earlier this month (around the 05th June 2024).

Joseph Tsatsire, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Water Distribution Director, said the restoration of water pipes near Bucwa Street, to the remaining KwaNobuhle households, started on Saturday, 15 June 2024.

Tsatsire said the operation is tricky but the contractor is on site, working around the clock to ensure that water is restored.

“The following quantified milestones are recorded rockfill is at 90% and pipe welding is at 95%.”

He said the contractor will be accelerating resources to ensure restoration.
“We envisage that the completion of rockfill and welding will be done today and after that the connection to both ends will be done by close of day.”

The floods took 7 lives and displaced  thousands of residents, and also disrupted road infrastructure and electricity supply to areas such as Kulati, Matomela, Struandale, Kwaford and surrounds.

JLizo Mhletywa, resident of KwanoBuhle, advised residents to always store at least 100 liters of water for rainy days. He also advised them to change the way water is used, in favour of ways of saving it. “We are not doing this for the Government, this is for us.”
