The Swartland Municipality alerted residents to dead fish found washed out at Yzerfontein, on Tuesday.

Last week, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DAFF) confirmed an algal bloom (HAB) in Saldanha Bay waters.

But said it is investigating sardine and pelagic fish kills, found as far as Gansbaai. 

The cause is yet to be confirmed. 

Last week, the DAFF’s Zolile Nqayi, said in a statement, that samples of dead sardines were collected at Saldanha Bay, Hout Bay, Betty’s Bay, Gansbaai and the Cape Canyon area. 

He also said a multi -stakeholder initiative is researching the cause of fish kills, including scientific researchers, institutions and fishing companies.
