Motorists are urged to remain on high alert when driving on wet and icy roads.
This is after tarred roads are slippery and visibility is greatly affected.
Jackie Macie, MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, cautioned against excessive speeding.
“Motorists are further advised to avoid driving through low-lying bridges and flooded areas. Snowfall has been reported on the N11 towards Volksrust and on the N3 in the province towards KwaZulu-Natal” he said.
It has become misty on some roads during the night and early morning.
Light snow was reported in Johannesburg around mid morning on Tuesday.
But inclement weather has led to several power outages around the country.
The Buffalo City Municipality said it is aware of an ongoing power outage affecting Pefferville in kuGompo City.
No restoration time was provided.
Similarly, City Power reported multiple power outages across its network while managing a high volume of individual open calls.
Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said technical teams continue working to restore electricity safely and as quickly as possible under challenging conditions.
There are currently 3 682 individual open calls, logged in the past 24 hours.
“At Delta Substation, approximately 75% of supply has been restored to Parkwood, Northcliff, Sophiatown, Brixton, Crosby including the Joburg Water reservoirs in the area, Fairlands, Linden, Parkhurst and surrounding areas; work continues on the remainder maily from Ridge distributors where line snapped” he said.
At Mayfair Substation (Homestead Park and Crown/Amalgam Distributors), contractors are on site trenching and preparing materials to repair cable faults affecting Homestead Park, Crown, Amalgam and nearby areas.
Reuven SDC currently has 527 open calls and operators are on site to manage an outage at Prospect Substation.
Affected areas are Robertsham, Ridgeway, Crown Gardens, Gold Reef City, Ormonde, Booysens, Ophirton, Mondeor, Winchester Hills, West Turffontein and surrounding areas.
Lenasia SDC also has 483 open calls, while the Inner City SDC has 414 open ones.
Midrand SDC is currently managing 39 open calls.
The City of Tshwane reported several outages, affecting the CBD, Union Buildings, Arcadia, Sunnyside, Hatfield, Steve Biko Hospital, as well as all areas supplied by the River Substation.
