The South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) launched its Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) at Ha-Begwa Village in Thohoyandou, on Tuesday.
The village was struck by multiple floods, which destroyed homes, in 2018, and again in 2024.
Temporary shelter was swept away.
The provincial disaster management and community relief teams, including the South African Red Cross Society, stepped in to assist.
The Thulamela Local Municipality, formed part of Tuesday’s operation, to distribute essential relief materials to affected and vulnerable beneficiaries.
Mercy Laker, the IFRC Head of Delegation, said the intervention forms part of SARCS’s ongoing commitment to provide timely humanitarian assistance to communities impacted by disasters and emergencies.
Dignitaries at the event, were SARCS National Headquarters representatives, Mr Matakanye, the Limpopo Chairperson Limpopo Provincial Office, Musina Branch staff, and SARCS volunteers.
