President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled the new R2 circulation coin, on Tuesday this week, to commemorate 50 years since 16 June 1976.
The unveiling took place at the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
The design of the coin has an image of raised fists, which were seen across Soweto, back in 1976.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is also expected to officiate the launch of South African Reserve Bank Museum, on Friday.
