About R1.195 billion was allocated to the Garden Route Region on Thursday, for the 2026/27 financial year.
Tertius Simmers, MEC of the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure, announced budget allocations, after a meeting at the Garden Route District Budget Outreach on Thursday.
Simmers said this “is to outline how the Western Cape Government is investing in the region’s future through roads, public works and human settlements”
Of this amount, about R837 million will go towards roads infrastructure, R143 million to public works projects and R215 million for human settlements initiatives.
Key investments include the reconstruction of Walboomskraal Road, Mossel Bay–Hartenbos Phase 2, York Park Modernisation, New Horizons Ebenhaeser, the Thembalethu Housing Development and Melkhoutfontein Housing Project.
Several roads remain closed in the Garden Route, the Central Karoo, Overberg, Cape Winelands and the West Coast.
