It has been 5 years since the establishment of the Young Engineering Changemakers Programme (YECP).
The Water Research Commission (WRC) and the Department of Science,Technology and Innovation (DSTI) gathered this week, to celebrate the milestones achieved and reflect on the work ahead.
In just 5 years, about 50 municipal engineers representing 21 different municipalities have successfully completed the YECP.
Speaking at the event, Dr Jennifer Molwantwa, CEO of the Water Research Commission (WRC), celebrated the transformational stride of ensuring that more women became part of the programme.
Dr Mmboneni Muofhe, DDG of the Department of Science Innovation and Technology, said it was befitting that this programme be named a “Changemakers Programme” because water is a life changing resource. He also encouraged participants to continue positioning themselves as great engineers in their municipalities.
Sello Seitlholo, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation said in his keynote speech, acknowledged the decline of skilled engineers within municipalities.
The Young Engineers “Changemakers” Programme (YECP) was launched in the 2018/19 financial year.
