Several homes were left without electricity supply this week, in Observatory, Johannesburg.
City Power has attributed this to theft of power cables.
Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said a service cable, critical to linking City Power’s infrastructure to customers, was stolen.
He also said in the past few days and weeks, technical teams have responded to an increasing number of calls to replace multiple stolen service cables in Observatory and other parts of the city.
“Our teams have been working tirelessly to assist affected customers, but the theft of service cables places immense pressure on resources and delays restoration efforts.”
As a result, City Power has urged residents, Community Policing Forums (CPFs), neighbourhood watch groups, private security companies, and concerned citizens to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity around electricity poles, meters, or underground cables immediately.
