Panyaza Lesufi, Premier of Gauteng, and other MECs, visited the Sporong Informal Settlement in Randfontein, part of the Rand West Local Municipality.

Some 600 families were housed at a local community hall, fearing intimidation from Zama Zamas (illegal miners).

Speaking from the Randgate community hall, Lesufi said the priority is to relocate vulnerable people including women and children and the elderly.

He also said those who have applied for housing subsidies, will be prioritised.

He said a highly trained police task team would be sent to tackle the situation.
