Motorists are urged to avoid Beyers Naudé Drive and Malibongwe Drive, after a fatal crash involving a diesel tanker.
The N1 Northbound is temporarily closed at Beyers Naudé Drive, and the N1 Southbound.
Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) said there is currently no major spillage.
Motorists can use local detours like Hans Schoeman Street and President Fouché Road, or broader regional bypasses via Witkoppen Road or Hendrik Potgieter Road to minimise severe travel delays.
Emergency personnel cleanup crews are at the scene.
