The Overberg District Municipality announced the temporary closure of Malagas pontoon/ ferry, for between two to three (2 – 3) weeks.

Richard Bosman, the Municipal Manager, said in a statement, the closure was necessitated by critical maintenance repairs and a mandatory survey by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).

The closure will be from the 02 March to 20 March 2026.

The pontoon is used as a tourist attraction but also to transport cars across the Breede River.

“We regret any inconvenience caused and request that road users make alternative travel arrangements during this period” said Bosman.
