The planned community shutdown, scheduled for Monday, the 28th October 2024, in Galeshewe in the Northern Cape, was called off yesterday.

The Kimberly Action Group announced in a statement on Friday, it called off protest action (titled #TogetherWeAreSanitized) in favour of further discussions with Government and the taxi association (SANTACO).

“The Kimberly Action Group acknowledges the progress made through these recent engagements. It is unfortunate however, that it took the threat of a complete shutdown for these community concerns to become a priority said Boyce Makodi on social media.

The community was planning to protest against the price of electricity, service delivery, accountability, unemployment and to stabilize the taxi industry.

A follow up mass meeting is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, in Galeshewe.
