Authorities say the Tokai fire is largely under control.

Authorities also said although large areas are under control, many areas continue to burn uncontained.

Jermaine Carelse, Spokesperson of the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service, said on Tuesday, helicopters that were airborne earlier, have had to be regrounded due to poor visibility.

“Light rain has however started falling in parts of the fire area, and it is hoped that this will provide some much needed relief and expedite efforts to extinguish the fire that’s been burning since Friday evening.”

Crews from the City’s Fire & Rescue Service, TMNP, NCC and VWS remain on scene, to extinguish multiple hotspots across the entire fire.

Roads in the Tokai and Silvermine are closed until further notice.
