A transformer went up in smoke, at Monyakeng, part of the Nala Municipality, in the Free State.
As a result, areas including Wesselsbron and Monyakeng, have no electricity.
Eskom is investigating the cause of the fire and has teams working to restore electricity.
In the meantime, the Municipality has urged residents to keep a safe distance from the fire and or any fallen wires.
There are no casualties reported as a result of the incident.
