The Department of Forestry Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) planted trees, to commemorate International Biodiversity Day, on Friday.

Bernice Swarts and Narend Singh, Deputy Ministers of DFFE, led the planting in Ekurhuleni.

The Department said this planting is of seeds of a sustainable future, contributing to South Africa’s Presidential One Billion Trees Programme.

Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of United Nations Biodiversity, is among dignitary at the planting, as well as Ewan Botha, MEC of the Gauteng Department of Environment and Siyabonga Moloi, MMC in City of Ekurhuleni for Community Services.
