Two of City Power’s contractors were hijacked in Alexandra township, in Johannesburg, on Friday, just after midday.
The two were out conducting work to weld and secure mini substations, when they were approached by five suspects in a white Toyota Avanza with no registration plates.
The incident occurred between 11th and 12th Avenue and Hofmeyer Street (now referred to as Richard Baloyi Street), Marlboro in Alexandra.
City Power has condemned this criminal act, saying it’s compromising efforts to protect essential infrastructure in high-risk areas.
The suspects hijacked the contractor’s white Nissan NP200 bakkie (registration number: HL56GLGP), which contained tools and other equipment, including a generator, paint, welding rods, and personal belongings of the contractors on site.
Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the incident.
City Power also said the matter was reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
