The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) reminded residents and visitors, that urinating at public spots is prohibited by the City’s municipal by-laws.
The Public Road and Miscellaneous By-laws specifically prohibit urinating, excreting, or behaving indecently on or in view of any public road or public right-of-way.
JMPD said in an update, that Public Open Spaces By-laws prohibit public indecency, fouling, and causing a nuisance in municipal parks, squares, and public open spaces.
The Waste Management By-laws prohibit the contamination and fouling of public infrastructure and shared environments.
JMPD also said key public hot spots across the city are under 24-hour video surveillance via our CCTV network.
“The act of urinating in any public space, including public roads, sidewalks, alleys, squares, and open parks, is illegal under municipal law. Zero tolerance will be applied to offenders” said the entity.
