Volunteers are assessing damages resulting from this week’s floods, in Bergman, Bloemfontein, in the Free State.

The South African Red Cross said storms affected homes, infrastructure, and access routes, leaving some families vulnerable and in need of urgent support.

“Our volunteers are working closely with local authorities and community members to gather critical information on affected households, identify immediate needs, and ensure that the most vulnerable are prioritized for assistance.”

The organisation said assessments are essential in guiding a coordinated and effective humanitarian response.

Thus far, 35 homes were destroyed by storms, since April, in Bergman.
