Strong wind and what residents are calling a “tornado” in Ermelo, left parts of the area damaged, on Wednesday afternoon.
There are uprooted trees, damaged roofs, torn carports, downed power lines, collapsed walls and fences, and debris scattered throughout the area of Ermelo.
The “tornado” has placed a spotlight on the need for a suite of early warning systems.
There is no official confirmation as yet, whether this event was a tornado or not.
The event has left the atmosphere clouded, leading to poor visibility. Residents of Piet Retief and Ermelo shared the news via social media platforms.
The South African Weather Service warned against thunderstorms in the area on Tuesday.
