A tropical airmass with potential to cause disruptive rain, is expected from Sunday until Wednesday, the 19th February 2025, over the central and eastern parts of South Africa.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said this weather condition is characterized by severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening, as well as rainfall of about 30 – 50mm every day.

Areas affected are the Southern Free State, Northern parts of the Eastern Cape, West and South West of the Cape.

In addition, overcast skies are also expected across the country, with showers predicted at 80% in Gauteng and the North West.

These showers are also expected in the Eastern parts of the Eastern Cape and Southern coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

As a result, SAWS has cautioned against crossing flooded roads and swollen streams, and for people to refrain from travelling on bridges or roads in low-lying areas.
