Rain of between 20-40 mm is forecast over south-east Australia, over the weekend.
Higher totals could even reach about 80 mm, in central and eastern Victoria.
As a result, the Bureau of meteorology issued a flood watch for a number of catchments.
River catchments in these areas are already quite wet following the flooding across north-east Victoria during late June and early July. This means that rivers could rise quickly from rainfall, so flooding is possible from Sunday evening.
The following rivers are included in the Flood Watch -Snowy River, Mitchell River, Macalister River, Bunyip River and Dandenong Creek, Yarra River upstream of Warrandyte, Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers, Kiewa River, Ovens and King Rivers, Broken River, Goulburn River upstream of Lake Eildon and Goulburn River Eildon to Seymour.
Laos
Several areas in Laos are flooded, including Khammouane, Savannakhet, Luang Prabang, and Vientiane Capital, while Phongsaly, Xaysomboun, Bolikhamxay, Khammouane, Savannakhet, and Attapeu.
This follows ongoing rains since the 03rd of August.
Several rivers, including the Xe Bangfai, Nam San, and Nam Tha, are approaching warning levels.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) issued a flood warning for heavier rainfall on Monday, which could impact low-lying areas significantly.
Japan
About 260,000 people were evacuated in Kagoshima and Okinawa, south west of Japan following heavy winds, rain and high waves.
More than 500 flights were also cancelled.
Kumamoto, is where thousands of residents were moved to evacuation centres as a result of last week’s earthquake.
The typhoon will add a new challenge there.
