The environmental impact of commercial vessels on marine ecosystems is under scrutiny.
Hence a workshop is organized to encourage further discussion, for Wednesday, the 29th  January 2025.

This initiative is the work of the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), in partnership with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) GloNoise Project.

The project seeks to address the environmental impacts of Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) from commercial ships on marine ecosystems while contributing to the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from global shipping.

As a Lead Pilot Country for the GloNoise Partnership Project, South Africa is dedicated to advancing this critical initiative.

SAMSA said the workshop on Wednesday, is expected to build global partnerships, particularly with developing countries; enhance capacity and raise awareness on URN mitigation.
The meeting is also expected to foster stakeholder engagement to drive the implementation of IMO’s Underwater Noise Guidelines.

The workshop is scheduled to take place from 09:00am until 17:00pm.
