It’s still lights off in parts of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
The Municipality has been providing daily updates to residents and businesses regarding the restoration work of the Chelsea–Arlington–Walmer–Summerstrand line.
Nine lines collapsed on the 10th of March 2026.
It is expected to take at least 21 days to repair them.
Contractors have had to safely dismantle the lines first, by stripping conductors.
Twelve monopoles must be installed to enhance the network, and sixty holes must be dug to secure it.
The construction sites must be cleared, to allow access to heavy machinery.
The Municipality also said on Tuesday, technical teams have made steady progress on site.
Thus far, two monopoles were erected.
Now technicians are trying to dismantle the damaged lattice pylon.
