5 people have died in Limpopo due to heavy rains.
Inclement weather marked by heavy rain, strong winds, and reduced visibility is expected to continue until Friday.

Authorities in Limpopo have cautioned against slippery roads as from Wednesday, 8 January, on the N1 and R101, N11 in Marble Hall, R33 from Lephalale, R40 from Phalaborwa, R524 from Thohoyandou to Makhado, R71 from Tzaneen to Polokwane and R81 from Giyani to Polokwane.

The Limpopo Traffic Update also reported the R71 road close to Mamadimo park, Mankweng is currently flooded due to heavy downpours overnight.

This has caused disruptions as multiple vehicles have come to a halt.
Motorists are urged to practice maximum caution when approaching the scene.

Road safety tips for motorists:
•Avoid driving at night
•Switch on headlights during the day
•Keep a safe following distance
•Reduce speed on slippery roads
•Avoid crossing bridges with water overflow
•Pedestrians, please cross the road at marked intersections and wear bright clothing.
