All schools remain temporarily closed in Los Angeles after three fires killed 5 people and destroyed about 1,100 structures.
Structures destroyed are homes, schools, cultural anchors and green spaces.
The Los Angeles Conservancy said “there are no words to describe the devastation we are experiencing in Los Angeles. During this truly historic disaster, our hearts go out to the many Angelenos whose lives have been upended by the raging wildfires across the county. The loss of their homes, schools, cultural anchors, legacy businesses, green spaces, and other places important to their communities is overwhelming.”
Fires are contained, against strong winds.
About 30,000 were evacuated since the start of one of the biggest fires, in the Pacific Palisade, burning an estimated 5 football fields per minute.
The other fire is in Eaton, where an estimated 52,000 people were evacuated in Altadena and Sierra Madre.
The other in Hurst, San Fernando.
The Los Angeles Fire Department announced Red Flag Parking Restrictions would remain in effect until 8:00AM on Friday, January 10, 2025.
The program allows vehicles to be removed from parking areas if parked in the “Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.”
