More rain is expected on Tuesday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) said, in Zululand and Mkhanyakude Districts of KwaZulu-Natal (level 5), northern parts of Kwazulu Natal and the  Highveld of Mpumalanga (level 4), Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo (level 4), North West, extreme western and south-western of Western Bushveld of Limpopo as well as Gauteng (level 2).

Gauteng Road Closed: MVA – N3, KZN

The Gauteng Provincial Joint Operating Committee (JOC) said the N3 remains closed until further notice between Van Reenens Town and Tugela Plaza in KZN, due to multi-vehicle accident on Van Reenens Pass on Monday evening.
Due to the severity of the accident and poor weather conditions, the route could remain closed for some time and may impact travel between Gauteng and KZN on Tuesday.

The JOC also urged motorists to delay travel until the route is opened and to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

Tshwane

The Tshwane Municipality said the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment plant is temporarily off line due to deteriorating raw water quality, as a result of heavy rainfall.
Areas with no water are the town of Bronkhorstpruit, Ekandustria, Ekangala, Rethabiseng, Riamarpark, Zithobeni, Thembisile Hani Municipality.

🌊Pietermaritzburg-Durban route flooded, multiple accidents reported
Motorists travelling between Pietermaritzburg and Durban are advised to slow down almost to a stop at the bottom of Ashburton.

🌊The N3 between Cato Ridge and Ashburton is experiencing some serious flooding.Please do not attempt to try crossing flooded areas if you’re inexperienced or it appears to be flowing at all.The N3 between Ashburton and Marrianhill Toll Plaza has had some serious rain so please be very aware.

🌊Virginia circle durban north glenashley exit flooded.

🌊Verulam: Usual roads are flooded.

🌊Phoenix Industrial Park to M25, then N2: Heavy rain and flooding at the usual lanes with poor visibility.

🌊Everest Heights Bridge by Shari Drive: The bridge is flooded.

🌊Seacow Lake Road: The road is flooded in both directions near KZN oils. Please use alternate routes.

🌊Bridge between Lincoln (Grimthorpe Ave) Meade and Bishopstowe: The bridge is in full flood. Please adjust your route.

🌊NMR/Somseu Road: The lane is flooded heading into town.

🌊M4 Southern Freeway: The left-hand lane is flooded just before the offramp to Victorian Embankment.

🌊Stanger OK Furniture parking lot: The road is flooded behind the parking lot.

🌊Balcomb Street: Caution is advised due to flooding.

🌊Umbilo joining Edwin Swales: The bridge is flooded. The left lanes are also flooded outside Southway Mall.

Mpumalanga

Two children are missing amidst heavy rains in Mpumalanga. It is suspected they might have been swept away by a river.

Namibia

A video on social media showed a safari 4×4 washing out.
Owners of the vehicle said it is a Chameleon 4×4, that was stuck in a riverbed close to Dustenbrook, in Namibia, on Sunday, the 06th January 2025.

The management of Chameleon Safaris said “the guide and assistant walked the river and deemed it crossable upon arrival.
In the process of pulling the 4×4 vehicle out of the river, another flesh flood came down and in a minute, the vehicle was washed away.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
