The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality has advised residents not to drink water without boiling it.
The Municipality said it continues to strengthen the treatment of both ground and surface water.
Phetla Thapelo, the Spokesperson of the Municipality said although this has been ongoing since December, the Municipality can only confirm the cause of the problem, upon the arrival of test results.
Dead fish were seen bobbing in Boesmanspruit Dam in December 2024, in a suspected incident of contaminated water.
The Municipality then advised people not to swim or use the water from the dam.
